Round 1 of the Ringwood and District Cricket Association’s season began on Saturday with a 2 day game in perfect conditions.
In Trollope Shield last season’s Premiers in Lilydale won the toss and batted against South Croydon. After a steady start to see them through to 4-96, partnerships were then formed between Ryan Smith (45), Mitchell Ebeyer (36no) and James Markland (25) to put them on top at 6-193. The introduction of Thomas Wynne (5-19) saw Lilydale collapse to lose 5-21 to be all out for 214. In reply South Croydon will resume next week on 2-63.
Bayswater Park found the going tough all day against the East Ringwood attack to finish the day on 8-171, of which opener James Court (64) was the main contributor.
Ainslie Park collapsed early to be 4-33 in their game against Montrose. Leigh Jones (53), Rowan Peters (48) and Jake Tucker (48) then rescued the situation to see them finish the day on 9/242, with Jack Orchard (3/40) and Cheyne VanKoll (3/80) taking bowling honours.
North Ringwood also collapsed early to be 4-40 in their game against Wantirna South. Ryan Peter-Budge (52) and Tom Robinson (48) then produced a 5th wicket partnership of 90 and with Simon Gray (55no) chiming in, saw the Bulls bat out their overs to finish on 9-231. Drew McKay (3-59) and Tristan Webb (3-72) did best with the ball for the Devils.
