“RDCA U/21 Suffers Round 2 Loss
Last Sunday the RDCA played its second round match against West Gippsland Cricket Association (WGCA) at Bayswater No.2 oval in wet / stormy conditions on a good but slow pitch. WGCA won the toss and elected to bowl but before play could start there was a 16 minute rain delay requiring a reduction to 38 overs / team. RDCA began steadily with a number of players getting starts but could not build large scores due to lack of concentration and inappropriate shots resulting in some easy catches. As a result RDCA posted a score of 10 / 125 off only 30 overs with Joel Merrett (SCR) 26 runs, Tyson Henry (TMP) 20 and Will Pleming (KIL)18 the main scorers. A very poor batting performance for the defending champions.
After lunch WGCA commenced its innings and built solid partnerships to easily reach 4 / 130 off 26 overs (with a 30 minute rain delay) due to some inaccurate RDCA bowling and missed catches. The RDCA wicket takers were Tristan Webb (WSO) 1/27, Luke Killey (WDT) 1/23, David Killen (APK) 1/11 AND Joel Merrett (SCR) 1/6.
Overall this was a very disappointing performance from a very strong RDCA team that was expected to win. A good win must be achieved in our next match to possibly participate in the semi finals with 6 No. associations having one win each. Two wins and a good percentage will be required.
The RDCA sincerely thanks the Bayswater CC (particularly Rohan and Andrew) and curator Michael for making their very good facilities available to the RDCA.
Our next match is on Sunday 10th December against last season’s grand final opponents, Eastern Cricket Association, at the same venue – Harry Trott Oval, Lakeside Drive, St. Kilda (St. Kilda CC home ground), commencing at 10.00am. Support from the RDCA cricket community in this most important match would be welcomed by the team.”
